Kharkiv Opera to digitize 400 hours of video archive

The Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre plans to digitize up to 400 hours of video. This includes archival recordings of performances, interviews with artists, television programs, rehearsals, creative meetings, concerts and backstage materials. Another 150 hours of video are to undergo digital reconstruction.

The project is being implemented with support from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. Researchers will establish when and which event was filmed, who took part and who worked on the production. Recordings in Russian that have scientific and historical value will be translated, with Ukrainian subtitles and/or voiceover added.

Based on the materials, 30 short video works will be created and combined into video installations. They will be shown during theatre events, before performances and at special screenings. The digitized materials will gradually appear on the theatre's digital platforms, including the virtual museum website.
