Road accidents increase in Kharkiv region: police name worst day

Since the beginning of 2026, 2,446 road accidents have been registered in the Kharkiv region — 21% more than in the same period last year. This was reported by the National Police. Among them, 529 accidents involved casualties: 83 people died and 701 were injured.

In September, 297 accidents occurred on the region's roads, 70 of them with casualties. Thirteen people died and 86 were injured. The most common cause of accidents is speeding, along with failure to keep a safe distance and driving under the influence.

The number of accidents involving pedestrians decreased over 9 months: in 72 such accidents, 16 pedestrians died and 68 were injured. Sixty-eight accidents involved children, with five minors killed. Most accidents with casualties occur on Saturdays, and the worst time is from 17:00 to 20:00.
