Slobidskyi District (around 24 km²) grew up around its factories: here you'll find the Malyshev Plant and the Metalist Palace of Culture, the Kharkiv Petrovskyi Rail Car Building Plant and Mashynobudivnykiv Park. The district's main thoroughfares are Lev Landau and Byron avenues. The Kharkiv-Slobidskyi railway station (formerly Kharkiv-Balashovskyi) operates in the district. Until 2016, the district was called Kominternivskyi.
The district is served by the metro stations "Sportyvna", "Zavodska" (until 2024 — "Zavod imeni Malysheva") and "Metrobudivnykiv". At "Sportyvna" and "Metrobudivnykiv" you can transfer between the red and green lines.
